NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City of North St. Paul is planning to place an aeration system on the southeast quadrant of Casey Lake. The lake is located within Casey Lake Park at 2089 17th Avenue. The aeration system will be installed the week of December 16 - 20, 2019, and will remain in place until spring of 2020. Pursuant to Minnesota Statutes, 103G.611, Subd. 3. Publication of notice. Advance public notice of the commencement of any aeration system, authorized by a water aeration permit from the commissioner during periods of ice cover on public waters, must be given by the permitted.
In the spring of 2013, Casey Lake was stocked with bluegill and bass. Besides being fun to catch and observe, bluegill also eat carp eggs. These fish will hopefully keep carp at low levels in Casey, in the event that they are ever re-introduced. Because Casey is shallow, oxygen levels in the water become low during the winter. Bluegill and bass need pretty high oxygen levels to survive. The aeration system will help keep these levels elevated during the winter months.
